On the day of the Battle of Jabir, Tayy, under her leadership, raided the tribe of Iyad ibn Nizar ibn Ma'ad. They were victorious, taking spoils and captives. Among those captured from Iyad was a handsome young man, whom she took as a servant. She saw his private parts and was attracted to him, so she seduced him and became pregnant. She was brought to them during the time of the raid, and they said, "This is the time for raiding, so go if you wish to raid." She kept saying, "Wait, the raid will pass," and this became a proverb. Then they came as usual and found her in postpartum recovery, nursing a boy. Their poet said: "I have been told that Ruqash, after her youth, conceived and gave birth to a handsome boy. May God bless her and elevate her status, and may God grant her a prosperous future. Ruqash used to lead a vast army, but she fell in love, and it is more fitting for one who falls in love to conceive."

هذه مقالة امرأة كانت تغزو، وتسمى رقاش، من بني كنانة، فحملت من أسير لها، فذكر لها الغزو، فقالت: رويد الغزو، أي أمهل الغزو، حتى يخرج الولد. يضرب في التمكث وانتظار العاقبة.
ذكر المفضل أن امرأة كانت من طيء يقال لها رقاش، فكانت تغزو بهم ويتيمنون برأيها، وكانت كاهنة لها حزم ورأي، فأغارت طيء وهي عليهم على إياد بن نزار ابن معد يوم رحى جابر، فظفرت بهم وغنمت وسبت، فكان فيمن أصابت من إياد شاب جميل، فاتخذته خادما، فرأت عورته فأعجبها فدعته إلى نفسها فحملت فأتيت في إبان الغزو، فقالوا: هذا زمان الغزو فاغزي إن كنت تريدين الغزو، فجعلت تقول: رويد الغزو ينمرق، فأرسلتها مثلا، ثم جاؤا لعادتهم فوجدوها نفساء مرضعا قد ولدت غلاما، فقال شاعرهم:
نبئت أن رقاش بعد شماسها            حبلت وقد ولدت غلاما أكحلا
فالله يحظيها ويرفع بضعها                    والله يلقحها كشافا مقبلا
كانت رقاش تقود جيشا جحفلا    فصبت وأحر بمن صبا أن يحبلا
