المثل العربي «دُونَهُ العَيُّوقُ» يُضرب للشيء البعيد المنال، أو الذي تعترضه مشقة عظيمة، أو الذي يكاد يكون مستحيلًا بلوغه. والعَيُّوق نجمٌ عالٍ مشهور، فجعله العرب رمزًا لما يبعد الوصول إليه.
