أَخْصَبُ مِنْ صَبيحَةِ لَيْلَةِ الظُّلْمَةِ.
وذلك أنه أصابت الناسَ ليلةً ببغداد ريحٌ جاءت بما لم تأتِ به قطُّ ريحٌ، وذلك في أيام المهدي، فألفى ساجداً وهو يقول: اللهم احفظنا واحفظ فينا نبيك عليه السلام، ولا تُشَمِتْ بنا أعدائنا من الأمم، وإن كنت يا رب أخَذْتَ الناسَ بذنبي فهذه ناصيتي بيدك، فارحمنا يا أرحم الراحمين، في دعاء كبير حُفِظَ منه هذا، فلما أصبح تصدَّقَ بألف ألف درهم، وأعتق مائة رقبة، وأحجَّ مائة رجل، ففعل مثل ذلك جُلُّ قواده وبطانته والخيزران ومن أشبه هؤلاء، فكَان الناسُ بعد ذلك إذا ذكروا الخِصْبَ قالوا: أخْصَبُ من صبيحة ليلة الظلة.

For one night, a wind struck the people of Baghdad, bringing with it a force never before seen, during the reign of al-Mahdi. He was found prostrating, saying: "O God, protect us and protect Your Prophet, peace be upon him, among us. Do not let our enemies among the nations rejoice over us. And if, O Lord, You have seized the people because of my sin, then my forelock is in Your hand. Have mercy on us, O Most Merciful of the merciful." This was a lengthy supplication, of which only this portion was preserved. When morning came, he gave away a million dirhams in charity, freed one hundred slaves, and sent one hundred men on pilgrimage. Most of his commanders, his inner circle, al-Khayzuran, and those like them did the same. After that, whenever people spoke of abundance, they would say: "More fertile than the morning after the darkest night."
