المثل «البغلُ الهَرِمُ لا يُفزِعُه صوتُ الجُلجُل» يُضرب لمن كثرت تجاربه ومصائبه حتى لم يعد يخاف من الأمور التي كانت تُخيف غيره؛ أي إن كثرة التجربة جعلته لا يبالي بالتهديد أو الإنذار.
أقرب تعبير إنجليزي هو:
“An old hand is not easily rattled.”
أي: صاحب الخبرة الطويلة لا يسهل إخافته أو إرباكه.
ومن الأمثال الإنجليزية القريبة جدًا في المعنى:
