المثل «إذا تخاصم اللصّان ظهر المسروق» يُضرب عندما يتخاصم شريكان في أمرٍ خفي أو في جريمة، فيكشف أحدهما الآخر، فتظهر الحقيقة أو ينكشف الأمر المستور.
أقرب مثل إنجليزي له:
“When thieves fall out, honest men get their own.”
وهو قريب جدًا من المثل العربي في الفكرة: عندما يختلف اللصوص، تنكشف سرقتهم.
ومن العبارات الإنجليزية الشائعة القريبة:
“When two thieves fall out, the truth comes out.”
أي: عندما يختلف اللصان، تظهر الحقيقة.
وهذه الأخيرة هي الأنسب كمقابل واضح ومباشر للمثل العربي.
