أحر من القرع
هو بثر يأخذ صغار الإبل في رؤوسها وأجسادها فتقرع. والتقريع، معالجتها لنزع قرعها، وهو أن يطلوها بالملح وحباب ألبان الإبل، فإذا لم يجدوا ملحاً نتفوا أوربارها، ونضحوا جلدها بالماء، ثم جروها على السبخة. قال أوس بن حجر يصف خيلاً:
لدى كل أخدود يغادرون فارساً
يجر كما جر الفصيل المقرع

It is a boil that affects young camels on their heads and bodies, causing them to become boiled. The treatment for this boils involves coating them with salt and camel milk bubbles. If salt is unavailable, they pluck their fur, sprinkle their hides with water, and then drag them across the salt marsh. Aws ibn Hajar said, describing horses:
At every ditch, they leave a rider dragging, like a boiled calf.

المثل «أحرُّ من القرع» يُضرب في وصف شدة الحرّ أو شدة الألم والمعاناة، والقرع هنا مرض جلدي يصيب صغار الإبل، وكانت معالجته مؤلمة وشاقة.
لكن إذا كان المقصود المقابل الإنجليزي للمثل بوصفه تعبيرًا عن شدة الحرارة، فأقرب التعابير: Hot as hell.
= حارّ جدًا / شديد الحرارة. وهو الأقرب في الاستعمال اليومي.
Burning hot.
= شديد الحرارة / حارّ كالنار.
Hotter than a two-dollar pistol.
تعبير عامي أمريكي للمبالغة في شدة الحرارة، وإن كان استعماله أقل شيوعًا اليوم.
أما إذا أردت مثلًا إنجليزيًا محافظًا على صورة المثل العربي، فلا يوجد مقابل إنجليزي مطابق لـ«القرع»، ولذلك الأفضل ترجمة المعنى:
It’s burning hot.
ويمكن أيضًا قول “as hot as fire” إذا أردت صياغة تصويرية أقرب إلى أسلوب الأمثال العربية.
